I love YA Books Based on Fairy Tales! I think what I like best about them are the similarities of the old classics paired with the twists of the author’s imagination.
When you delve into a new retelling of Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty or any of the others you start with a familiar premise and so it’s exciting to get to meet all the characters told in a new and different way.
One of the book series I picked up this year was The Lunar Chronicles. This is the story of Cinderella as a cyborg, Little Red Riding hood searching for her missing granny and falling in love with the “Wolf” and Rapunzel held prisoner in a satellite orbiting the earth.
I mean seriously, could you get any more fun? I LOVE The Lunar Chronicles, if you haven’t read them I HIGHLY recommend it.

nice.. thanks for sharing those!
Lunar Chronicles is the only one I’ve checked out, but I’m interested in checking out the others. Thanks for this post!
no problem!
I definitely need to read some of these. It also reminds me that I need to read the *Ever After High* series, which is a MG series featuring the sons/daughters of fairytale characters. Also, *Isle of the Lost*, which is the book *Disney Descendants* was based on – featuring the sons/daughters of fairytale villians/heroines of Disney movie versions of fairytales.
love it
A Court of Thorns and Roses is a beauty and the beast ‘retelling’. It’s Beauty and the Beast in a super original new way, by Sarah J. Maas, who also wrote the well known Throne of Glass series. It’s a good addition to the list 😉
ooh.. thanks!
Entwined is 12 Dancing Princesses and a whole series by km shea on kindle.
awesome
Beauty by Robin McKinley. She did it first and, in my opinion, is still the best!
How is Ella Enchanted not on this list? Is it just not considered YA? It’s my favorite
