Hey Friends,
First, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas. We are wrapping up the year around my home, and I’m sure you are, too.
2015 was a big year for me. I decided to write a book! I’m still not sure why I chose to do it or where the idea came from, but sometimes ideas take on a life of their own and demand satisfaction.
Writing Beautiful/Broken World surprised me. I’m the kind of person who gets A LOT of ideas, but has a hard time finishing most of them. They just get stale and then new ones come along. I get excited about that and move to something new (Can any of you relate?).
But the book compelled me, it had to be told. And other than one week, I took off to re-read and do a light edit of the first half of the book, I wrote a chapter every week. The whole thing was not easy, believe me. Raising children adopted from foster care has more than its share of complications. But when it comes down to it… we ALL have complications, just different ones.
So my advice? Make time. Make IT happen (whatever IT is for you).
One thing I have discovered this year is if you REALLY want something to happen you will find a way to bring it to fruition in some form.
Beautiful/Broken World is in editing right now and after a lot of considerations, while I know it will be released in 2016, I’m not sure when. At the start of this journey, I knew nothing about writing a book and even less about releasing one. And since it will be an indie release, I have discovered it’s best to have at least book 2 ready and number 3 well on its way. None of this waiting a year like traditional publishing. Readers (and Amazon) don’t want to wait around.
So you will have to be patient… and ME, too 🙂 It also means that I need to get going on book 2. And that brings me into my 2016 writing goals.
- Plot book 2 and 3
- Increase my writing speed to 2 chapters a week, so at minimum finish book 1/draft 1 by the end of April and book 2/draft 1 by September.
- Release Beautiful/Broken World summer 2016
- Release Book 2 fall 2016
- Release Book 3 winter 2017 (at least I don’t have to completely count this one, since it’s a 2017 goal!)
It doesn’t look like a lot… only 4-5 things.
Lol. Boy, do I know better! But that’s OK. I can do it.
What are your big goals for 2016? I’d love for you to share them in the comments.
